So, this will come as a shock to some, but not to others. We will be open Tuesday through Thursday…. Then closed for good at this current location. We do not have definite plans for the future, but we will resurface, somehow, some way.
This is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to write. I can’t begin to explain how difficult, yet how amazing our time here at our little cubbyhole on the southwest corner of Oakland Park Boulevard & North Federal Highway has been. What all of you have allowed us to build is something unique that couldn’t happen the same way in any other city. Build it and they will come is not the recommended business model, but that’s what we did. We have met & connected with so many great people. We feel so embedded in the community, so it’s not easy to let go. We don’t want to lose touch with you, so please send us your contact information, & be sure to follow us on social media! It might seem like the worst time to close, when we are busy, when it’s season & all our faithful snowbirds are here alongside with our regulars. If we could do everything our way, we wouldn’t close, or we would have another space lined up to seamlessly move our operation. We’ve done as much as we could our way. We plan to do things our way again. When and where, we haven’t figured that out. In the meantime, please join us this week for one last meal in our little dingy, loud, uncomfortable space with the “so called art” on the walls, the sign on the door charging $3 to use the restroom, no substitutions & the squatty potty in the ladies room (no please carve slayer in your arm sticker - because someone stole that from the men’s room). So, I know a lot of you might have questions… we might not be able to get back to you immediately with answers. But please join us Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, regular hours! We love you all! Mike, Christy, Kenny, Gil, Kristina, Ivenie, Melanie, Nicole, Adam, Wendi, Nora Please pardon our absence between July 9 -18th. We will be taking our summer break. So come on in tomorrow or Saturday to tie yourselves over until our return. Hasta luego!!!
Thank you so much for everyone who supported us & came out to our 4 year anniversary! We couldn't have made it this far without you! We are taking a break tonight, but we will be back open tomorrow at 5 pm, and we will be open through the week, business as usual! Cheers!

It's come to my attention by way of various firms by way of email or phone calls that we could benefit from upping our marketing, website, social media interaction & blogging games. Like, all I have to do is pay someone to post on facebook & instagram!!!! So I picked one of said firms, and I wrote them a check for 1 MILLION DOLLARS, and told them to have at it. Ok. I really didn't. But I did just notice that there has not been a blog post since 3/3/16. Oopsie! Anyway, this is a post about our goings on as of late. We have some things that you can order for catering, if you wish. And of course we also have gift certificates & T shirts for sale as well, if you need to find a present for that special someone with excellent taste.... And then we have the Reveillon Dinner Menu coming up. What's a Reveillon Dinner, you say? Oh, I guess your google is broken. The short answer is that a Reveillon Dinner is a Louisiana tradition that started on Christmas Eve in the home, but then restaurants started offering Reveillon dinner menus to get people to go out to eat. So... come out to eat! We will be offering our Reveillon dinner menu from Thursday - Saturday, December 22 - 24 for $50. We will also be offering our regular menu as well, of course. And we will be open on Saturday, December 31 as well. Details to follow! Opening Date: April 9, 2013, 4pm.
Hot & Soul is a restaurant 16 years in the making. Since we packed our bags in Boston and moved to New Orleans, our goal had been to one day own our own restaurant. Over the years, we've learned how to cook the classics, new techniques and everything in between. In New Orleans we learned about tradition, spice and bold flavors. When we moved to San Diego, we learned about craft beer, fresh ingredients, ethnic cooking, and sourcing from small farms and fisherman. Here in South Florida, we see the emergence of the burger bars, the gastropubs, craft breweries and comfort food made with quality ingredients. All along, we've found little mom and pop restaurants, where the owners cook and serve the food, and you can taste the care taken to make it. We wanted to create that kind of small restaurant feel. We've merged our desires for the kind of restaurant we would like to go to, as well as the kind of restaurant that we would like to work in. We hope you will come and appreciate our vision! Our menu is comprised of the food and flavors that we have grown up with, discovered and fell in love with. We have Filipino chicken adobo, Louisiana gumbo, oxtail gnocchi as well a few vegetarian items such as soba noodle salad and vegan coconut polenta with mushroom gravy. Our beer list changes and includes brews from various craft breweries including Stone, Cigar City, Ballast Point, Founders, Peak Organic & Funky Buddha. Our wine list will also change, but will always feature interesting wines from lessor known small winemakers. We are not fine dining, and we drop lots of the pretentious service that often gets in the way of a good meal. We only have a few tables, so we only take reservations for parties of 5 or larger. If we are busy, peak time is between 7 - 8:30. If you are less than 5 people and you don't want to wait, try to come in before or after peak hours. Or, if you have to wait, we will try to make every effort to get you seated as soon as possible. We have a small staff, so sometimes we might have a free table, but we might not seat you right away if we feel that we will not be able to get to you right away. So, please be patient! We try our best to give you a warm and satisfying experience! We have a large communal table where you can sit and chat with your neighbors and make new friends, if you prefer this to the regular tables. Our communal table is made from the wood of 100 year old tobacco barns in Kentucky, and the base is big thick plumbers piping. We found the carpenter who built the communal table and the bars on Etsy! We hope you will come and give us a try, maybe have a new food experience, or taste a beer or wine you've never had! So, we got some stuff coming up! I will make this short and sweet so that you actually read the whole post...
This coming Friday, April 1 (not an April Fools joke, I hope)... Deco Drive will be here at 5:00 pm to film for an upcoming segment. Please help us look like we are a cool happening place by joining us for happy hour! Come in and get food & drink & TV time as well!! Also, Sunday, April 10 will be our 3 year anniversary! We will be doing a crawfish boil & caribbean grill, as well as serving some cool beers, nice wines, fun soju cocktails, the return of sake jello shots... We will be open that day from 12 - 6. And then Thursday, April 28 is Broward House's annual Dining Out For Life benefit event. Come out to eat & feel like a real humanitarian - the more you spend, the more that is donated to Broward House for social services for those with HIV or AIDS. Eat & drink to your heart's content for a great cause! So save the dates and see you soon! |
